TMC launches this Thursday evening the broadcast of the first season of “Yellowstone”, a modern western led by Kevin Costner, who for the occasion plays a ruthless patriarch, ready to do anything to save his ranch.
What is it about ?
A powerful Montana family, led by John Dutton, who owns the largest ranch in the United States, is fighting to keep their lands from being encroached upon.
Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-won respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those around it: a growing city, through the schemes of a wealthy developer real estate, an Indian reservation and the first national park in the United States.
Season 1 of Yellowstone airs beginning Thursday, June 23 at 9:15 p.m. on TMC.
Un western modern
Created by Taylor Sheridan (director of Comancheria and screenwriter of Sicario) and John Linson (producer on Sons of Anarchy), Yellowstone is based on all the well-known codes of modern westerns: a divided family that only the preservation of the family empire seems to unite, an intransigent but weakening father, children affected by the privileged but harsh environment in which they grew up and conspirators who only aspire to see them fall from their pedestal.
Very quickly, the Machiavellianism of the enemies of the Dutton family, who advance their political pawns and try to undermine their work by all means, captivates us. Especially since the Dutton clan turns out not to be entirely innocent, each member quickly revealing a dark side and not hesitating to resort to violence and the same methods of intimidation as their adversaries.
A five-star cast
Weathered face wearing a stetson, Kevin Costner returns to his first love, westerns, and plays for the occasion the patriarch of the Dutton family, the guarantor of the proper functioning of the ranch and the affairs of the clan.
His four children are camped by Luke Grimes (American Sniper, True Blood), Kelly Reilly, alias Wendy in The Spanish Inn, Wes Bentley, seen in the first part of Hunger Games and American Horror Story and finally Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters).
Cole HauserKelsey Asbille (The Scott Brothers), Brecken Merrill, Jefferson White, Ian Bohen (Teen Wolf), and Gil Birmingham (The Twilight Saga) complete the cast.
Launched in 2018 in front of just under 3 million viewers in the United States, Yellowstone has become a real phenomenon over the course of the episodes. According to information from the American site Deadline, the first episode of season 4 gathered a total of 14 million Americans in consolidated audience, and its finale, offered on January 2 on Paramount Network, reached 15 million viewers.
It is therefore no surprise that the series has been renewed for a fifth burst of episodes and that a spin-off, titled 1883, was born in December 2021.
