The FC Barcelona transfer window is about to start. Catalan club president Joan Laporta has confirmed the arrival of two signings next week. Other reinforcements are in Bara’s sights.
Xavi will finally get reinforcements
After a rather calm start to the transfer window, FC Barcelona will move up a gear. The Catalan club will finally offer first recruits to its coach Xavi, starting next week.
Laporta confirms two signings
On the sidelines of a tribute to Johan Cruyff on Saturday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta gave an update on his club’s summer transfer window. The opportunity for the Catalan leader to reassure the few worried Barcelona supporters by confirming the arrivals of Franck Kessi (25) and Andreas Christensen (26).
Both at the end of their contract, respectively with AC Milan and Chelsea, the Ivorian midfielder and the Danish central defender will be officially presented next week. We will present Kessi on Wednesday and Christensen on Thursday Laporta assured the Spanish press. The first will bring muscle in the midfield, the second will strengthen a defense deemed too fragile last season.
Azpilicueta, Alonso, Raphinha.
Christensen may not be the only Chelsea player to join Catalonia. According to Mundo Deportivo, Bara are still targeting versatile defender Csar Azpilicueta (32), capable of playing in the center and on the right side, as well as left-back Marcos Alonso (31). The Blaugrana even think they can attract the duo in exchange for an overall budget of 20 million euros. With a check for €207 million collected following the sale of a percentage of its TV rights, FC Barcelona finally seems ready to spend.
This week, the Spanish press also mentioned an agreement between Bara and Leeds for a transfer of winger Raphinha 60 M€. What happens is that there are other clubs who want Raphinha and make their proposals. What we also know is that he wants to come to Bara confided Laporta. Note that an arrival of the Brazilian would not necessarily be synonymous with a departure of Ousmane Dembl. Free since July 1, the French international is about to extend, says the Catalan press.
Lewandowski still in the waiting room
Finally, a file remains complicated for Barcelona: Robert Lewandowski (33 years old). One year from the end of his contract, the striker wants to leave Bayern Munich. Problem, the German club has already rejected three Barcelona offers, the last of which is estimated at 40 M€ (+5 M€ bonus). A proposal well below the 60 M€ now requested by the Bavarian leaders to open the door to a departure from the Polish international.
Asked yesterday on the subject, Laporta preferred to kick in touch: Everyone knows he’s a great player, but I would prefer to keep some reservations because he’s a Bayern player. We know he has publicly stated that he wants to come to Bara and we are very flattered, but we have all the respect for Bayern Munich, who are one of the best clubs in the world. This does not prevent Bara from doing their utmost to steal their scorer.
