TELEVISION – This is the major information from the France TV back-to-school press conference which was held this Wednesday, July 6 … And yet it will have been sent, in just a few seconds, at the very beginning of the presentation, in the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris.
The mythical program Numbers and letters will lose its daily life at the start of the school year on France 3. The vocabulary and arithmetic game hosted since 1992 by Laurent Romejko will be replaced by another TV game, hosted by a presenter well known to the public. of the third: Cyril Féraud.
“Regionalize France 3 further”
The one who is already at the head of Slam will present family duels. In a giant apartment setting, two families of four will come to defend the colors of their region, competing every day of the week, in three duels and a final.
“This choice of program is part of the public service’s desire to ‘regionalize’ France 3 more”, explained to the HuffPostStéphane Sitbon-Gomez, director of antennas and programs at France Télévisions. An announcement that comes as the channel announced internally this Tuesday, July 5 the removal of its editions of the 12/13 et 19/20 for the benefit of newspapers produced in the regions, from September 2023.
New schedule for Numbers and letters
Numbers and letters does not however disappear from the antenna. The program will now be offered on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 5 p.m. “It’s true that it’s a big change”, concedes Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez. “We really wanted to rejuvenate this weekday afternoon slot, while keeping this historic event on the air at all costs and this is the best solution we have found.”
The program is a true public service institution. Original title The longest word, it was launched in 1965 thanks to Armand Jammot. At the time, the France Télévisions group did not even exist, the game was offered on the second channel of the ORTF with Christine Fabréga as host. Numbers and letters is to date the second oldest program of the PAF, behind the Jour du Seigneur, presented every Sunday on RTF Television, ORTF, TF1 then France 2 since 1949!
A new version at the start of the school year
Laurent Romejko and the two co-hosts of the program Bertrand Renard and Arielle Boulin-Prat must return at the start of the school year in a new version, announced France Télévisions, without however giving more details on the content and on a possible new decor of the emission.
The president of France Télévisions has also explained that the rise in raw materials has led to increases in the cost of construction of TV sets since the war in Ukraine, pushing the public service to make choices for this return to school. “It’s sometimes twice as expensive today as it was in the past,” she explained.
Cyril Féraud will have a busy return to school since, in addition to presenting Slam et family duelsthe host will also be at the helm of a prime time titled 100% logical. This general culture quiz broadcast on France 2 is an adaptation of a British format and the production will be ensured by the BBC Studios, which produces among others Dance with the stars or The best pastry chef in France. He will also return to the presentation of the Champions Quizstill on France 2.
