France has known since Thursday morning its 17 representatives who will defend the flag at EuroBasket 2022, which will take place next September. If the presence of leaders like Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert was expected, others appear as little surprises. Vincent Collet rewarded some of the players who distinguished themselves during the recent international window. Victor Wembanyama is also there. Now, focus on preparing to arrive in top form in September.
Things are clear: the France group will not go for a walk in Central Europe for tourism. In any case, it is the meaning of Vincent Collet’s message that shines through this list. Of course, the leaders Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert, chief architects of the last great performances of the Blues, will be present. No Nicolas Batum and no Nando de Colo? It was to be expected since the two players have indicated in recent months their intention not to take part in the competition to take a rest before the coming season. We also find in the list a lot of names accustomed to spending the end of summer in blue white red: Thomas Heurtel, Elie Okobo, Vincent Poirier… To clarify, all the players of the Tokyo Games – apart from the two main absentees mentioned above and Petr Cornelie – will be present. As with every international competition, the choice is made to bring in a few more players than those who will really make the final cut, since only twelve players will actually cross swords with the other nations of the continent.
A mix of experience and youth 🥵

Among the novelties compared to last year, we can therefore note the selections of Terry Tarpey, Amath M’Baye, Théo Maledon and Victor Wembanyama. While the top three have undoubtedly earned their place in the group thanks to their recent fine performances against Montenegro and Hungary, the last name mentioned is new. No surprise either, since the new Mets 92 player had announced earlier in the year that he would not be present for the Euro U20 which also takes place this summer. Who will be on the final list? Logically, the group should be quite similar to that of 2021, but note that the good performances of Théo Maledon with the Blues could open a door for him, especially when we know that the absence of Nando will free up a place at the led. To replace Nico Batum? The battle will be tough but Terry Tarpey, Isaïa Cordinier and William Howard can all believe it. It will therefore be necessary to give everything, to show that his name brings more than the other two… while not forgetting that the main objective remains to prepare the group in a global way. Regarding the case of Victor, he could very well appear in the list as the twelfth man, a bit like a Petr Cornelie in Tokyo. The goal? Acquire experience, and begin casually to integrate the guy into a group that he should soon learn to frequent regularly. All the preparation matches will also be available on BeIN Sports from August 7th.

Here we go ! The preparation of the Euipe de France begins, meaning at the same time that the team of Vincent Collet engages in the last straight line towards the EuroBasket. The objective during the competition? Rise to the roof of Europe, neither more nor less.
