The Stade André-Valentin d’Amnéville was the scene, this Saturday, of the first friendly meeting of the Garnets version 2022-2023. Facing Racing Union Luxembourg, László Bölöni led his flock for the first time … and brilliantly!
On one side or the other, the opportunities were legion during the first quarter of an hour. Often called upon in the opposing half of the field, Georges Mikautadze tried to make his technique speak in front of the opposing defense, without success (5°). At his side on the front of the attack, Ibrahima Niane was the author of the first Messin shot, powerful but imprecise (7°). A good start for the Moselle, especially since on his line, Alexandre Oukidja was vigilant on a tense cross (14°).
Happy to see an attempt by Mario Pokar miss his post (16°), the Algerian international goalkeeper deployed perfectly to return a shot from Jérôme Simon above the bar (23°).
By an Ablie Jallow often in the good shots in the midfield, the Garnets put Racing under pressure. The Gambian midfielder tried his luck from a distance (18°), before ideally serving Georges Mikautadze who stumbled on a Luxembourg defender (19°). Metz’s efforts were finally rewarded: jostled in the area, Ibrahima Niane obtained a penalty which he converted in cold blood (1-0, 28°).
The public present in the bays of the André-Valentin Stadium marveled when Matthieu Udol placed a bicycle that deserved to hit the bull’s eye. Romain Ruffier nevertheless intervened at the height of his right skylight (31°). Before the break, Ibrahima Niane went there with his double, superbly served by Ablie Jallow, erasing the opposing goalkeeper (2-0, 43 °).
With a reshuffled team back on the pitch, coach Bölöni’s squad did not let go. Entering the game, Amine Bassi, alone at 25 meters, found the Luxembourg crossbar with a clear shot. A brilliant inspiration from the midfielder who deserved a better fate (57°).
Not stingy with dangerous situations, this first friendly meeting of the Garnets highlighted a well-oiled collective, and an interesting offensive animation. Like this solo breakthrough by Lamine Gueye, concluded with a powerful strike from the 24-year-old striker. Only a save from Romain Ruffier prevented the native of M’Bour from increasing the score (66°).
After a decisive save from Marc-Aurèle Caillard on a low recovery from Davy N’Goma (70°), Youssef Maziz was caught in extremis against the Luxembourg goal (78°). On the last notable action of the meeting, Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly reviewed the opposing defense, but failed in the last gesture (88 °).
At the end of this first summer outing, marked by a significant turnover, the Garnets drew up a convincing copy, punctuated by a double from Ibrahima Niane. A successful start, before going to challenge CS Sedan next Tuesday.
