What are the lessons you can learn after this first warm-up match?
“As often for this kind of match, we make discoveries. Positives and negatives. We have some answers in relation to certain situations. Also hope. But we also see which things need to be measured again and even changed. These are elements that we will be able to analyze with all the staff. And even with players elsewhere. These warm-up matches are always very useful because they give information about the game. Not everything was perfect, but I still think there are positive things to take away from this first meeting. For the moment, we are trying to build the most resistant core possible. »
“Some have shown interesting things, especially in roles that are not necessarily theirs at the start. They also have other instructions. These matches are for that. It is above all a life-size training. A useful workout. The players complete a cycle in the preparation and come before the coach to show what they are capable of. This is also an opportunity to answer some tactical questions. Because we must not stop at individualities alone, it is a whole. You have to make the animation look good, regardless of the system. If the animation is good, then all systems are good. But we are still far from being able to say that our best tactical solution is this or that…”
“Revolution comes from within”
For the moment, FC Metz has not registered any reinforcements. Does this worry you?
“I know that there are ongoing files because it goes through me too (smile). But I also know that you have to keep your feet on the ground. What I would like first is to keep some elements that are already there. The revolution comes from within. We are not going to import this revolution. For the time being, we are working with our means, our possibilities after a season that has done a lot of harm. It is in this context that we are trying to find the best possible solutions. But it is extremely difficult. I’m not going to cry, it’s not the first time this has happened to me. I have confidence in the work of the people who deal with recruitment. »
On a personal level, have you made your mark?
“It is in continuous progress. Nothing is over. Above all, I hope that we will be able to lend the necessary hand to facilitate the investments that are made within the club. Obviously, we also have a role to play. »
