Very valuable in the excellent course of Élan Béarnais, Gregor Hrovat will discover his third French club: the Slovenian international has said yes to the JDA Dijon.
For two seasons, he had been one of the most underrated players in Betclic ÉLITE, really far from trivial in the very good (sporting) year of Élan Béarnais (12.6 points at 47%, 4, 5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 36 games). Revealed in Cholet Basket, sublimated in Pau-Lacq-Orthez, Gregor Hrovat (1.96 m, 27 years old) will continue his tricolor route at the start of the school year by strengthening the ranks of the JDA Bourgogne Dijon.
A very nice move for the Burgundian club which thus secures the services of one of the smartest players in the championship, a reliable binder in an outside line, capable of mounting the ball, creating, driving, shooting. And a very nice way to console yourself for the loss of Khadeen Carrington since the arrival of the Slovenian rear probably buries the last hopes of an extension of the former Monegasque.
While Dijon have made an appointment with Sassari, PAOK Salonika and potentially Malaga in the Champions League, the winner of the Coupe de France will also be able to bring some welcome experience from European competitions. If the EBPLO only played the Betclic ÉLITE this season, the child of the Helios Suns already has six continental campaigns to his credit: four with Olimpija Ljubljana, one with Bayreuth and the latest with Cholet.
” We were looking for a player at fullback who had experience of the Betclic Elite and the BCL, ”explains Fabien Romeyer, the sports director of the JDA. He is no stranger to Pau’s very good season. He has just won the Coupe de France and played the semi-finals of the Playoffs while performing well. Gregor also gives us human guarantees, he is a player who likes to fit into collective projects. He will bring us his creative ability, his percussion qualities but also a real threat on outside shooting. His experience and versatility will be invaluable to us this season. He may have to arrive late because he will be able to compete in the next European championship. »
Indeed, Gregor Hrovat is part of the backbone of the Slovenian selection, one of the most successful teams in the world in the wake of its superstar Luka Doncic. Not yet international during the 2017 coronation, he has no other objective than the title of European champion for this summer.
“We are still the reigning European champions,” he told us last February. “We really want to stay that way, that’s our goal. If everyone is there and healthy, and we play our style of play, we can aim big. In addition, we will have a chance to take revenge against the France team since we are in the same group! »
All the more reason, in Dijon, to watch on September 7, 2022, with an even more interested eye, the remake of the legendary semi-final of the Olympic Games…
