Is it now impossible to trust the big brands? Between health scandals and misleading packaging, it’s hard to know where to turn. Fortunately for buyers, the magazine 60 million consumers watches and warns them!
Palm oil in a product that boasts of not containing it!
The magazine highlighted the lie of the Primevère brand concerning its margarine. Basically, on the package, it says that the product does not contain palm oil. A real interest for consumers when we know that palm oil destroys the planet and is not good for health. But if we look more closely, we can see if the label that the product…is made with palm oil. It is therefore a deliberate lie on the part of the brand.
« Find the mistake ! The mention “without palm oil” is displayed in large on the tray, but we can read on the back “contains palm oil”. With or without palm oil? Primevère explains to us that this is a printing error and guarantees that this margarine does not contain any. And leave the products on the shelf. What leave the consumer in confusion“, posted the magazine on its site.
Studies of 60 million consumers
The magazine wants customers to know exactly what they are buying. Don’t always trust the packaging. The packaging is sometimes very elaborate to be attractive. But that does not necessarily mean that the products are good for your health. It is the same with prices: the most qualitative products are not always the most expensive.
Take the example of chocolate powder. Several brands were studied by the magazine. About fifteen brands were therefore analysed. In all the products, the magazine deplores a sugar content which is too high… for all the brands: “ Thus, a 200 ml bowl provides an average of 20 g of sugars: this represents 40% of the recommended intake!« .
In its ranking, the Ovaltine brand points to the last position. Why ? Due to its high sugar content and the presence of additives. It is therefore one of the rare brands not to have drawn a line under these controversial components. The Canderel brand is also in trouble with its Cankao without aspartame. 60 million consumers deplore the presence of three synthetic sweeteners in its composition. So these are the two bad students.
Other well-known brands are not proud as well since 60 million consumers highlight the low cocoa content. It’s a shame for hot chocolate, but it’s true. Ovaltine brand hot chocolate contains only 13% cocoa. Behind, it is hardly better for Banania (19%) and Nesquik (23%).
The French no longer trust
It’s simple, not a week goes by without a health scandal, more or less important. Between the presence of dangerous bacteria and the lies of the brands, it is difficult to know which products to buy. The recent Buitoni pizza scandal has not reassured the French, especially when we know that some children have died.
A magazine like 60 million consumers is there to help you make the right choice. To take the example of powdered chocolate, the magazine only highlights bad students. The good students are obviously quoted.
Thus, the three good student brands that top the ranking are: first in the class, the Jolivia brand with its raw organic cocoa powder. With a nice score of 16.5/20, the product can boast of having a composition that does not endanger your health.. Just behind comes the Naturela brand, with its pure lean cocoa, and without added sugar. Finally, in third place, Van Houten, with its unsweetened organic cocoa. The nutritional values of these cocoa powders are excellent.
