Last night, the president and owner of the Girondins de Bordeaux was in After Foot on RMC Sport. Find his remarks below.
“The decision at first instance, we did not criticize it”
Gérard Lopez on RMC Sport: “Since the appeal to the DNCG, a lot of things have happened. To come back to the call, I will not rehash what has already been said, in the first instance there was above all one element that was missing, but for fairly clear and clear reasons. Everyone received the requests from the DNCG, everyone worked on the responses.
They were, not for me but for all these people, institutions and companies, clear and clear. Maybe the communication was not good.”
“We are reducing the club’s debt by €40m”
“So we worked to simplify everything and we did two things: first, I had €24m blocked with the conciliator instead of the €10m that had been planned at the start, €14m placed in sequestration by the club Which means the club stays in Ligue 2, the money is theirs.
And the second piece of evidence that we have just completed is that we have reduced the club’s debt by €40m. We reached an agreement with the lenders since we go from 53M€ to 13M€.
The decision at first instance was not criticized. We don’t understand the decision on appeal, and it’s not just us who don’t understand it. If it were to go all the way, let it be Fortress, let it be King Street, let it be the shareholders i.e. me and the employees etc. it is clear that we will go to court for prejudice.”
“For me, the club will not go to National 3”
“We passed the appeal board with solid answers to all the questions that were put to us. Answers that have been reviewed by institutions, that have been reviewed by reputable companies, everything that goes with it.
We took the letter of motivation, we found flagrant errors of law, we simplified the responses to the requests of the DNCG in the first instance and we are convinced of our case. If ever the decision remains in the state, the club will be put into liquidation. – so you will necessarily leave – Not necessarily.
For me, he will not go to National 3 but we will see. The club is not in default. It is a company that is doing well. Sportingly, she is doing very badly but economically, she is not doing badly, we are giving the necessary guarantees. So the club has to be treated fairly.”
“I understand that people are not happy”
“I understand that people are not happy / happy, that they hate me because they are going back to social plan. This club cannot exist only on TV rights, T-shirts and entries. This year, half of the stadium is closed to cut costs.
The only leverage is selling and buying players. I apply a model which may not be popular, which works well in other industries but which may not be acceptable in football.”
